Few days ago, i casually found a book named " David and Goliath", written by Malcolm Gladwell. When i opened pages, i felt myself indulge into the mystery and charming world Mr.Gladwell created. David, a shepherd boy armed with only a sling, beats the experienced and mighty warrior Goliath by throwing stone straightforward to Gokiath's forehead. This story appears on Bible, which was remarked as a representatiive victory for the weak parties. Whereas, the story is not as simple as we think.
Malcolm Gladwell once emphased the importance of critical thinking. His outstanding talent stunned me in a good degree. Also, he claims the weak underdog we think is completely wrong and full of mistakes. Here are his logical deduction. Firstly, David was not equipped only a sling. As the ancient record, archaic warriors can be divided to three parts. The third portion is the warriors with slinger. This sort of sling had accelerated the speed of the stopping power of the stone David carried. When he turned around his arms, his speed can reach 6 or 7 kilometers/ per hour, which is really fast. By adding the power of a sling, the speed enable to surpass the speed pf the finest throw pitcher in the world. Then, according to the record of the short distance between David and Goliath, the attack to Goliath was capable to let him unconcience or even die. Apparently, based on such powerful and lethal attack, David had a huge advantage in this single battle. So we underestimate this shepherd boy seriously.
Second, we also misunderstanding the giant Goliath who had six foot nine. He moved so slowly as the Bible emphases. Along with the medical examination of Giant, professors think most of giants have a disease which causes the double vision. Goliath once said to David, "Come to me, i will throw you to the heaven of birds and beat you." Come to me shows his vunerability of blurred vision. "Come to me" because i cannot see you. After that, he said," Am i a dog. And you come to me with sticks?" in which David had only one stick. In history, famous giant have the same kind of disease. In conclusion, Goliath is not as stronger as he seems.
The end of the story is that David took Goliath's sword and cutted Goliath's head. By the deduction above i mentioned, the story is never ever a symbol of the champion of wak parties. On the contrary, it shows again about the strength of the stronger one. Malcolm Gladwell is my respected masterful author with excellent logicals and unusual thinking. By far, his book won the reputation many times in The New York Times with the bestseller.
